Elegant late 18th Century Cuban mahogany Stick Barometer in essentially original condition; with arched top over silvered brass register plate, classically engraved, signed by the makers and bearing manually-operated vernier slide. The finely patinated trunk, edge moulded, with richly patinated book-matched veneers, and with original exposed barometer tube terminating within hemispherical cistern cover.

Perhaps the most internationally renowned barometer makers, the firm of Dollond was founded in the mid-18th Century by Peter Dollond [who secured the Royal warrant as Instrument Maker and Optician to King George III] and which flourished until its acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
