Impressive ‘flame’ mahogany cased bow-front Stick Barometer in original condition; the attractive ‘ogee’ top over well engraved register plate with rack-and-pinion operated vernier; the finely patinated trunk inset with Fahrenheit and Réaumur mercury thermometer, and with original concealed cistern barometer tube terminating within urn-shaped cistern cover. Both registers are protected by bowed glass


Perhaps the most renowned of all barometer makers, the firm of Dollond was founded in the mid 18th Century by Peter [who became Instrument Maker and Optician to King George II] and flourished for over 150 years until its acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
