Most impressive and excellent quality early 19th Century mahogany bow-front Stick Barometer, in original condition. The case of finely patinated ‘flame’ mahogany, with ‘ogee’ pediment over exceptionally well engraved silvered brass barometer register plate with rack-and-pinion operated vernier. The inset long Fahrenheit and Réaumur mercury thermometer with pulley-operated gnomon. Both plates unusually trimmed in brass. The original concealed barometer tube terminates behind ebonised urn-shaped cistern cover.

Perhaps the most renowned of all barometer makers, the firm of Dollond was founded in the mid 18th Century by Peter Dollond [who became Instrument Maker and Optician to King George II] and flourished until its acquisition by Aitchison in 1913.
