Six superb heavy silver Hanoverian Tablespoons by Ebenezer Coker. Hallmarked and dated 1753. Bearing the crest of the Duke Of Beaufort Charles Noel Earl of Somerset. Interestingly these spoons are engraved with the date of 1753. In this year the fourth Duke of Beaufort commisioned some refurbishment at his home Badminton House. London cabinet makers John and William Linnell were commissioned to make a suite of furniture in the Chippendale Chinese style for a bedroom. The fourth Duke died in 1756 and the trustees of the estate held a sale of some of the contents in 1757 due to "the load of debt on the estate," dating back to the third Duke. These spoons may have left the Badminton Estate then.
