This big and beautiful mid-18th century Dutch delft charger is covered in the most exuberant deep blue decoration, largely based on Chinese porcelain motifs of the Kangxi period, with a central composition of a crane standing in a pool, amongst foliage and flowers, surrounded by concentric bands of decoration of peacock feathers, flowers and fruits. The plate has a scalloped edge, and is quite deep; it has the mark of De Klauw (the claw) of Delft on the reverse, with the number 490, and four stylised flowers. A very similar version can be seen in the collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art. Dutch, circa 1750 - 60.
