This George I antique bureau bookcase is very rare due to it being made from walnut, circa 1730. It has a moulded cornice above two glazed doors, with key and working lock, fronting an interior with two adjustable shelves. The moulded fall front is beautifully figured and has lovely feathered banding, when opened it reveals an interior that contains a red leather writing surface, small oak lined drawers and several pigeon holes.
The lower section has three graduating cock beaded oak lined drawers with brass handles and feather banding detail on the front. This is a truly fine and rare antique bureau bookcase that stands on shaped bracket feet and has minor marks and old repairs, all adding to its character and authenticity and to be expected in a piece that is nearly 300 years old. It is a warm golden shade of walnut with a striking grain, good patina, is in very good condition and has been beautifully cleaned using a traditional form of wax finishing.
