This early 19th century mahogany secrétaire à abattant was made in New York, circa 1810. The secretary features a top drawer above the fall front desk which, when opened, reveals a leather embossed writing surface with five visible drawers and two secret drawers made of tulipwood. Below the desktop is an additional locking storage cabinet. The keys are original and when turned once, locks the secretary desk; when turned a second time, locks the drawer above.
