Fine and rare 5inch [13cm] diameter brass cased aneroid barometer – No. 5579. The well-engraved silvered brass dial bearing curved Fahrenheit thermometer and protected by bevelled plate glass. Distinctive knurled bezel.
Dent, a renowned London maker of quality clocks, secured the UK franchise from the French aneroid barometer patentee Lucien Vidi and sold many thousands – consecutively numbered - from 1844 until the patent expired in 1860.
