Excellent quality, rare and early, brass-cased aneroid barometer in original condition; the 5in diameter engraved silvered brass signed dial - of typical Dent design and numbered 819, signed by the eminent retailer - Charles Wastell Dixey – and bearing curved mercury Fahrenheit thermometer.

Dent, a renowned maker of quality clocks, secured the UK franchise from the French aneroid barometer patentee Lucien Vidi and sold many thousands – consecutively numbered - from 1844 until the patent expired in 1860.
Dixey traded from prestigious premises at 3 New Bond St from 1838-62.
