A portrait miniature of an officer with powdered hair and wearing a blue jacket with red facings and collar, a single silver fringed epaulette, white leather crossbelt, black gorget. Watercolour in an oval gold frame with plaited hair reverse. The reverse of the painting is signed: E Pugh/pinx/1798.

Additional Information: Pugh Edward c1760-1813 Pugh was born 1760 and worked in London and Chester. He exhibited at the Royal Academy and British Institute 1793-1808. He joined the Artist’s Volunteer Corps in 1803. A miniature of a man signed ‘Pugh’ on the reverse, with a London address and dated 1803 was exhibited at the Leicester Galleries in August 1926. The Victoria & Albert Museum has a miniature by Pugh which is signed and dated on the reverse, ‘Painted by Pugh on 28th April 1803’.
