Excellent quality and rare marine aneroid barometer. [9in / 23cm diameter] in original condition. The finely engraved, silvered brass dial, signed by the maker and bearing Admiral Fitzroy’s “remarks”. Unusually, protected by hinged cast brass bezel with bevelled plate glass. Edward White, an accomplished clockmaker, was born in Dublin in 1830. He was apprenticed to Edward Dent and rose to the position of Foreman before setting up on his own in 1861, at nearby 20 Cockspur St. He clearly collaborated closely with his mentor's firm, securing several noteworthy Exhibition prize medals in his own right.
