Favourite Item
19th Century carved Tiller in Elm. Judging by its style of decoration it is either from Snandinavia or Friesland. It is exquisitely decorated with a carving depicting a snake wrapped around it. Within each of the snakes coils are motifs including Thistles, Flags, Shields, Lozenges, Anchors and scratch carved foliate designs within "dog tooth" edges. There are traces of paint indicaring that each of the motifs were coloured. The handle has an ornamented knopf and a reeded ring turning separating decorative triangles. All in all this is a rare and wonderful example of Folk Art. (Additional detailed photos available on request).
