A fine English gilt hour striking carriage clock by this celebrated London firm of clockmkers, together with its original mahogany travelling box.

The moulded case (20.5 cm height) is of a style typical to this maker and retains its original gilding. There are bevelled glasses to the sides and top and a solid gilt rear door with winding shutter and regulation slide.

The silvered brass dial is signed by the maker 'James McCabe, London No. 3354, which is repeated on the backplate.

The eight-day fusee movement strikes the hours on a gong and retains the original platform lever escapement with gold plain balance wheel.

Together with the original fitted travel box of faded mahogany with rounded brass edging and numbered winding key.
