A portrait miniature of a young gentleman with curling powdered hair held back with a black ribbon, he is wearing a green jacket, white chemise and white frilled cravat. The sitter is in an arresting pose, looking straight at the artist, possibly because this may be a self portrait.

Watercolour on ivory in an oval gold frame with plaited hair reverse. This portrait is quite possibly the work of a pastelist, pastel was a popular medium for larger portraits from about 1775 to the end of the 18th century. The paint has been applied in tiny individual strokes and the overall effect is very "soft". A most appealing miniature.
