A portrait miniature of Charles Meredith Deane of the 24th Light Dragoons. He is wearing a light blue jacket with white frogging and a white collar, black stock and a fur covered helmet with a red and white cockade.

Watercolour on ivory in an oval gilt metal frame. The miniature is sold together with a tiny hair mourning brooch in gold with blonde hair and inscribed to the reverse: "Capt Deane, 14th Dgns obt 13th Augt 1815, East India".Charles Meredith Deane 1762-1815.

He was married to Ann Deane daughter of John Deane of Hartley Court, Reading. They had a son Charles in 1787 in Southampton and then John Bathurst (later Reverend) in 1797 born in the Cape of Good Hope. In 1799 The family sailed to India where Charles Meredith later died at Cawnpore.

He was also Great grandfather to Violet Constance Deane, daughter of Hugh Pollexfen Deane portrait miniature number 5421 on this Site.

His son Charles Deane later became a Lt Colonel of the 1st regiment.
