Favourite Item
A rare 1840s engraved Swiss one piece timepiece carriage clock, with a highly unusual crab-tooth duplex escapement.

The case is fully enclosed with floral engraved panels, all newly regilded in a soft satin finish.

The eight-day movement has a crab-tooth duplex escapement with a blued steel 'bat wings' balance - this style of balance was favoured by the Chinese market to allow a for a sweeping seconds hand so that time could be seen visibly passing. The backplate is signed M  B  BREVET D'INVENTION, a trademark I believe for Maison Bovet. The Bovet Freres had their workshops in Fleurier, Switzerland, and had cornered the Chinese market for pocket watches and carriage clocks in the early 1800s.

The white enamel dial has Roman numerals within an outer minute track, and very fine Breguet type moon hands with a sweeping seconds hand.

16.5cm high handle up.

The movement is fully original, and overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years. The case is as new.
