This 1910s Eureka mantel clock is perhaps the most elegant of all the electric clocks we have ever had for sale.

The fine mahogany balloon case has a three-dimensional tapered waist, with a line inlaid border with a crossbanded edging and marquetry shell inlay to the centre.

The short movement is numbered 4227, and runs on a 1.5 volt flag cell type battery which fits in the lower compartment.

The movement is visible through the skeletonised Arabic enamel dial, and will be fully overhauled and guaranteed for 3 years.
The Eureka Clock Company held the patent, granted in 1906, to produce an innovational battery-powered electro-magnetic clock. Production started in 1909, and continued for around five years until the voluntary liquidation of the company. It is thought that the high cost of the clocks was to blame for the demise of the company.
