A very large Japanese Imari vase of exceptional decorative quality dating from, circa 1700-1720. Each of the three main panels on the body of the vase depicts different varieties of flowers such as peonies, carnations and chrysanthemums. The lid is a European copy of the original made to replace the, presumably, broken, original. We think it was made in the early 19th century and we assume that the vase must have had a prestigious provenance considering the cost of making a lid to match in such quality. The vase stands on an associated 20th century hand-carved and gilt wooden base. This is a spectacularly decorative and impressive piece.
