As part of our oriental collection we are delighted to offer this wonderful quality very unusual Japanese mixed metal vase , the cube form top of the vase stands on a circular tapered bronze base onlaid with a mixed metal three clawed dragon resting on a gilded greek key design iron base , the shaped top section is superbly onlaid with butterflies amidst a floral backdrop , cleverly picked out in gold, silver, shibuichi and shakudo again below a greek key pattern gilded iron rim , however in our opinion the obvious star attributes of this vase are the four individual panels finely decorated in all of the previously mentioned alloys , the panels depict a snarling three claw Dragon , a Ho-Ho bird or Phoenix , a mythical demon or Oni and finally a Japanese favourite the mythical Baku ( the Baku is highly revered in Japan because according to legend he eats bad dreams and nightmares , he is a talismatic figure that is prayed to before bedtime)

This is a most unusual very high quality mixed metal vase that although unsigned we firmly attribute to be the work of a leading artist working in Tokyo called "Miyabe Atsuyoshi "

The body of the vase has been left in its original uncleaned condition and thus carries a few minor age related nicks and pits, the iron rims and gilding are also slightly pitted , i hope the multi photo's go some way to showing how good this vase is.

A stunning and extremely rare addition to your Japanese collection !!
