With Wide Curved Comb and Thick Plank Seat
Having Original "H" Stretcher running from Front to Back
Ash and Elm with Traces of Original Paint
A fine and unusual primitive Windsor comb back armchair with a generous wide cresting rail, well sculpted thick saddle seat and interesting stretcher arrangement. Constructed from various indigenous timbers including ash and elm, this example retains much original painted surface and shows signs of use and wear. The thick seat is supported by four splayed legs which are unusually joined by an "H" stretcher running from front to back, rather than from side to side, the front stretcher with a lovely surface and colour and showing signs of years of considerable use and wear. There is a minor historic loss to the front upper side of the right side arm and a small shrinkage crack to the right side end of the crest rail, there is no other visible sign of significant restoration or damage. This is a fine primitive chair, with some exceptional features in very good honest state.
