Extremely rare Worcester mug with flared base painted in a very unusual palette with a fanciful bird perched on a leafy branch beside pierced rockwork, flowering shrubs, butterflies and insects.
The only mug with similar decorations that appears to be recorded is in the Samuel M Clarke Collection and is illustrated in 'Worcester Porcelain in the Colonial Williamsburg Collection', plate 8. This decoration does not appear on any other Worcester porcelain.
