- This vibrant painting shows how Cariot was influenced by Pointillism, yet remained distinct from it. For example, the use of short brushstrokes instead of dots in this piece is characteristic of his technique.

- Cariot’s contrasting of the strong greens and yellows in the foreground with the cool, muted blues and purples of the sky in the background emphasise the vastness of the depicted landscape.

-This is a prime example of Gustave Cariot’s Post-Impressionist painting. He has used his own distinctive style to create this sunlit scene. As well as the use of pointillism, he has used short upward brushstrokes to create the swaying field of wheat of the title.

-Cariot has used the vivid palette he is well known for with a thick impasto to create a rich and marked dimensionality to each compositional element of the canvas, drawing the viewer in. The tiny addition of a horse and cart, almost invisible in the middle far left corner, adds to this depiction of a vivid rural idyll that Cariot became famous for.
