This is a most pleasing mahogany bracket clock by the eminent maker Francis Dorrell (11) who was apprenticed to his father , also named John, in 1731 and was working from 1755 to 1780 and had premises in Whitecross Street ,London. This particular clock would date from the latter end of his career.

The Mahogany veneered case is of excellent colour and finish .The patina is outstanding. The inverted bell top case is surmounted by a carrying handle and has four original gilded finials at each corner.
The brass work has deliberately been left unpolished but can easily be done at the buyers request but please be aware that it will take another 200 years to regain the patination.
The sides and rear of the clock are glazed as to allow the moment to be seen in operation.
The 7 inch brass dial is also very nice with the makers name engraved on a silvered cartouche below 12 o'clock. It has the unusual feature of having a sweep date dial together with a strike / silent dial in the arch..
The finely made double fusee 8 day movement strikes the hours on a bell and unusually has a passing strike on the half hour which operates on a second hammer. The back plate is nicely engraved and the clock has verge escapement with a pull repeat. It is in full working order having been recently serviced. Please note that the passing single strike on the half hour cannot be silenced with the lever.g
The overall condition is excellent with only the odd age related marks as can be expected on any clock of this great age.The quality of the timbers used are exceptional as is the colour.
The clock is 18 inches high (handle down) ,10 3/4 inches wide and 7 deep
Prospective buyers are requested to personally view this clock to see how nice it is.
