A 19th century French bronze of Henry IVth of France as a young man of fine quality after Francois J Bosio (1768-1845), stamped Barbedienne.

The figure of young Henry is depicted in traditional dress holding his sword in his left hand and leaning against a tree trunk.

Henry IVth of France, often referred to as the 'good King', was born in 1553 and died in 1610, he became King of Navarre in 1572 after the death of his mother

This bronze is a reduction cast by the famous Parisian foundry F. Barbedienne, founded in 1838, and bears their signature and also the Collas reduction stamp.

The Barbedienne foundry was set up in 1838 by Ferdinand Barbedienne and Achille Collas, Collas invented a machine to create smaller bronze figures from statues of Greek & Roman origin in particular. The foundry produced many fine pieces over the years and worked closely with many artists, two of the most famous being Barye and Rodin.

This bronze is in excellent condition with a good patina and can go straight into a home or collection.
