French ebony desk in the Louis XIV style, featuring brass and tortoiseshell marquetry in the style of Andre Charles Boulle (1642-1732). It features a red leather writing surface on top, three drawers to the front and false drawers on the other side, four ormolu mounted cabriole legs with female busts at the top and paw feet. The desk is a copy of the original made by Boulle in 1720, which is now at the Hotel de la Vaupalière, having been sold in 1896 from the collection of Mademoiselle de Choiseul. This is an exquisitely crafted piece.
