A truly exceptional exhibition quality French ebonised and marquetry inlaid side cabinet attributed to Joseph Cremer. The floral marquetry on this cabinet is of outstanding quality. The panels are made up of at least ten different woods and some dyed woods which form an intricate floral display to the front and sides.

The cabinet has deeply chased bronze gilt ormolu mounts and mouldings and brass string inlay with a demi god mask to the centre of the plinth base. Inside the cabinet is a polished mahogany interior with two shelves and a full length drawer to the frieze with original working lock and key.

The cabinet has a later white carrara marble top.

Joseph Cremer was born in 1811 to Flemish parents and was known to be one of the best marqueteurs of the 19th century. He supplied furniture to King Louis-Philippe of France and the King of Holland. He won many awards at the Paris exhibitions and also in London. Examples of his work can be seen at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris. Cremer died in 1878.
