Mahogany balloon mantel clock with satinwood inlay, circa 1900.

This beautiful French clock is in a particularly good mahogany case with decorative satinwood inlay. The crisp white dial showing Arabic numerals and spade hands. It has an eight-day, movement de Paris and will strike hours and half hours on a gong. The movement is stamped Japy Freres, Medaille D'Honneur.

Interestingly this style of clock case was first introduced in the 18th century, to commemorate hot air balloon flight.

The clock has lots going for it, firstly the beautiful mahogany case, the shape, the delicate inlay detailing, easy to read the time on the clear dial and of course, the makers name stamped on the movement.

This piece would look fantastic in any setting.

We at Timepiece, select each piece ourselves and mechanically restore each clock which is sold in working order. We take great pride in our stock and also in our customer service and we look forward to hearing from you if you would like to have this French clock in your home.
