Simeon Stafford was born in Duckinfield, bordering the Pennines, in 1956. A prodigy of L.S.Lowry after winning the Robert Owen Award, and the Manchester News Award. Lowry became a close family friend, and inspiration. After studying at the Hyde Collage he moved to Cornwall, attracted by the light of St Ives. His works reflect a world full of incident and accident, with splashes of vibrant colour, and amusing compositions. Often depicted in his sea side landscapes are characters from his own family, including Aunt Dot, who died age seven, and is always shown doing handstands, with Trixie, the family Jack Russell, who lived until she was 28, and is now stuffed, and a resident of Simeons bedroom. The artist himself, can often be seen dressed in red and white striped trousers, dragging a small boy with him, reflecting the artists desire to hurry along to the next adventure, with his own son.
An exhibition of his work was held at the Royal Academy in 2001. Examples of his work can be found in major galleries and collections, include that of Her Majesty the Queen.
