The case which is veneered in finely figured mahogany has a shallow chamfer top, chamfered glass side windows and a brass ringed door.
The silvered convex dial 6 inches in diameter has Roman numerals and an outer double minutes circle. The signature G & W Yonge, Strand is engraved below XII, with London engraved above VI. The hands are blued steel with pierced tips.
The 8-day fusee movement, with anchor escapement, is very elegantly engraved to the base of the substantial backplate with the makers’ signature G & W Yonge, Strand, London. There is a heavy brass bob pendulum with an inverted rating screw. The hour strikes on a gong with pull-repeat.

* G & W Yonge are listed in Brian Loomes’ ‘Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World’ as working London in 1839. They were the successors to George & Son who were clockmakers to the Lord High Admiral.
