A rare silhouette by Batenham of a young man aged perhaps 18, profile right, full length and holding a gun and standing on a patterned carpet. He is finely painted on glass, his hair is worn in the "windswept look", he wears a jacket, chemise and a frilled cravat. He is holding both his gun under his arm and what appears to be a hat.

Reverse painted on glass with a verre eglomisee edge and original painted pine frame, the reverse with Batenham's Trade Label. It reads "PROFILES TAKEN AND PAINTED ON GLASS, From Seven Shillings to One Guinea. TIME OF SITTING ONE MINUTE. Ladies and Gentlemen attend at their own Residences, by a Line, or Message addressed to Mrs Tye, for G BATENHAM of Wrexham.

G. BATENSHM (FL 1800-1820)
Silhouettes by Batenham are rare, his silhouettes are recorded by Jackson and Woodiwiss, he used Trade Labels from St Asaph and Chester, this profile bears the Wrexham label. The examples of his work described by Jackson and Woodiwiss were in black rectangular frames, filled by flat black glass with a verre eglomisee oval in the centre containing the profile. His Trade Labels have also been recorded in Caernarvon.
