'Constantinople'.

A most stunning panorama view of Constantinople by one of the most prolific engravers of his times. G.B. Probst (1732-1801) came from a long line of engravers of city views and vues d'optiques.

The engraving shows the city's spires and minaretts across the Bosphorus with the Coat of Arms next to a banner bearing the title 'Constantinople' in the top part of the plate. The foreground depicts further buildings with costumed figures and riders. With explanatory text in German at bottom of plate.
2 joint sheets. some very faint browning. no distinctive platemark. small margins all around. some faint scratches to plate in right hand top within image. nice strong impression. otherwise excellent condition.
