A rare Cuban mahogany batchelor's chest with brushing slide, of diminutive proportions and outstanding colour.
Dating to as early as 1720-1730 this superb little chest has a moulded edge top above a brushing slide and four graduated drawers fitted with brass handles and standing on shaped bracket feet. It is in outstanding original condition including the brassware, feet, locks and even the key, and is of true 'Bachelor chest proportions, just 12 inches deep.
It is indeed rare to find a period bachelor chest in mahogany,as they are more often veneered in walnut. At this period mahogany had only just started to be imported into this country. The top sides and drawer fronts are all in the finest figured timber and constructed from the solid.
