A fine George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau bookcase. The bookcase section with swan neck pediment, of shaped cavetto section, cross & feather banded with and inset glass lozenge panel set within a bold cross grain moulding. The beautifully fitted interior with an arrangement of drawers, pigeon holes, and folio shelves with a central cupboard. The bookcase is enclosed by a pair of shaped arch doors, with bevelled mercury slivered mirror plates, with candle slides below.

The bureau section with a dividing cross grained waist moulding, with feather & cross banded fall opening to reveal a further arrangement of concave drawers, pigeon holes, and again with a central cupboard. The inside of the fall has an inset leather working surface. Below a figured walnut frieze with two short drawers and a pair of retractable lopers, over three long, graduated feather banded, oak lined drawers, fitted with apparently the original brass plate handles. The bookcase is supported on shaped bracket feet. A piece of excellent proportions and with quality construction throughout, it uses choice veneers and retains excellent colour and patina.
Excellent. Minor restorations to chipped veneers, cleaning, waxing. Mirror plates and handles apparently original.
