A very good George I figured walnut & feather banded bureau of excellent colour & patina. The top and fall with sectioned veneers feather & cross banded. Below a figure frieze with a pair of retractable lopers and waist moulding over an arrangement of two short and three long graduated oak lined, feather banded drawers with engraved brass plate handles and escutcheons. The fall opens to reveal an arrangement of drawers and pigeon holes, with a central cupboard section bordered by column fronted hidden drawers, a central well with retractable cover contains another hidden compartment. The fall fitted with a leather writing surface. The bureau is supported on bracket feet. A fine piece of furniture of particularly good colour and patina.
Excellent. Minor repairs to flake or chipped veneers, cleaning & waxing. The handles appear to be old replacements. The leather writing surface has been replaced.
From a private residence in London.
