A superb George II carved giltwood serpentine console table. The frieze intricately carved with a central flower filled cartouche bordered by C-scrolls and with acanthus entwined s-scrolls to the front and side. The console is supported on rocaille-carved cabriole legs terminating in scroll feet. The detailing used in the carving is exquisite, the table has excellent proportions throughout. A wonderful piece of furniture.

Further Information:
Breccia is a rock composed of broken fragments of minerals or rock cemented together by a fine-grained matrix, that can be either similar to or different from the composition of the fragments. The word is a loan from Italian, and in that language indicates either loose gravel or stone made by cemented gravel. The striking visual appearance of breccias has for millennia made them a popular sculptural and architectural material. Breccia was employed for column bases in the Minoan palace of Knossos on Crete in about 1800 BC.
Excellent. Minor restorations, re-gilded within the last 30 years. Marble top a later replacement.
