A very fine quality mahogany bracket clock by John Waldron, London. The matted centre, 7” brass broken arch dial with silvered chapter ring and silvered makers cartouche to centre inscribed John Waldron, Cornhill, London with applied original gilt brass spandrels to the corners., strike silent dial to the top and a date aperture below. The five pillar, double fusee movement with anchor escapement and comprehensively engraved to the back plate.
The bell top case is constructed in well figured mahogany with gilt brass carry handle. The arched front door with brass fretwork, the sides with circular and rectangular brass bound observation ports, the rear door with fitted glass. The case is supported on the original mahogany pad feet. The quality of the case and movement, the thickness of the dial and plates, the quality of the engraving all suggest that this is a clock of the highest quality.
Excellent. The clock movement has been fully overhauled and serviced, minor restorations to the case. The movement has been converted from verge to anchor in about 1800.
