A very elegant George II period walnut chest of small proportions and faded colour and patination. The piece consists of four long drawers graduating perfectly in size from top to bottom. The brass engraved plate handles and escutchons are sympathetic replacements and the bracket feet and base moulding are original. The fully crossbanded caddy top has re-entrant front corners and chequered boxwood line inlays which are repeated on the drawer fronts. The corners of the front are chamfered and fluted which enhances the elegant proportions of the piece. The pull out brushing slide is also veneered in walnut and crossbanded, a sign of real quality. The original drawer linings are in oak and run from front to back and the drawer joints are delicately dovetailed.

Width: 34 in (86.5 cm)
Height: 33 in (84 cm)
Depth: 18 ½ in (47 cm)

* Well drawn walnut chests of small size and great proportions were only ever made in small numbers for wealthy Georgian households and have become collectors’ pieces today.
