A fine George II walnut 8 day hour striking, longcase clock by John Hayton, London. The case of fine colour and excellent patina. The hood with original pagoda topped with three fluted ball finials, below a broken arch door bordered by turned tapering columns, and walnut veneered sounding boards.

The trunk with fine patina to the broken arch door, the base panel cross banded and double plinth base. The clock has a fine quality five pillar movement. The 12” dial with silvered chapter ring, matted brass centre with subsidiary second hand with silvered surround, twin winding holes, lower date aperture. The arch filled with a makers cartouched inscribed “John Hayton, London”, bordered by dolphin corner pieces, the dial quartered by cherubs head spandrels.

A fine clock of elegant proportions.
Excellent. The movement has been fully overhauled and serviced, minor restorations to case. Base apparently original, plinth replaced. Pagoda apparently original.
