A fine George II walnut upholstered “love” settee of compact proportions and newly recovered in a classical 18th century style floral patterned green and charcoal fabric. The rectangular section back, with rounded tops and sides. The arms with scrolling bolsters, piped in green, the seat section over-stuffed with close nail finish. The sofa is supported by elegant walnut cabriole legs, with scroll carved lappets and hidden leather wheel castors. The back legs have a particularly attractive flowing curved shape. A pretty settee of excellent small proportions.
Excellent. The settee has been stripped down, joints tightened where necessary, One lappet replaced, the settee re-upholstered in classic 18th century Gainsborough fabric, woven on an 18th century loom.
From a private residence in Devon.
