A fine George II Chippendale period, mahogany, metamorphic architects table. The rectangular solid mahogany top with rounded corners, cleated to the shorter sides, rising and tilting on a double ratchet support to form a high drawing surface. The frieze with two long dummy drawers over a single opening drawer, fitted with axe head pulls and brass lock escutcheons. To each side a pair of opposing fully fitted drawers pull out enabling the draughtsman to have a full selection of drawing instruments available to hand. The table is supported by square section tapering, fluted legs, conjoined by intricately carved fretwork brackets to the hips and terminating in a block foot with semi-concealed castors. A piece of superb quality and fine detailing throughout.
Excellent. Minor restorations, waxing.
