This piece is virtually identical to a press made for Richard Clowes Esq of Huntsback, Manchester in 1772 and a secretaire version of the same press made for John France of Rawcliffe Hall, Lancashire in 1766. Both these are illustrated in Susan Stuart’s book “Gillows of Lancaster and London, 1730-1840” and are also listed in the Gillows workbook of that period.
