A fine George III Cuban mahogany candle stand, in the manner of Thomas Chippendale. The concave sided top with serpentine corners with upstanding laminated and capped fretwork gallery, over a fluted column with waste collar and gadrooned ankle, standing on a profusely carved tripod base with acanthus leaves to the tops of the knees and ribbed sides, swooping down towards a tight scroll foot on rectangular pad base. The stand has a rich lustrous dark colour and excellent patina and exudes quality throughout.

Mr J L Rose was an ardent collector in the sixties, regularly frequenting fairs like Grosvenor House. We are delighted to be able to offer several notable pieces from his collection. This candle stand conforms closely to one illustrated in Thomas Chippendales “The Gentleman’s and Cabinet Maker's Director”
Excellent. Minor old restorations, waxing.
Mr J. L. Rose of Quarndon, Derby.
