Rare and highly collectable George III Inverness sterling silver skewer.
Maker: Charles Jamieson. Inverness circa 1810

The finger ring terminal is joined to the body of the skewer with a decorative shell using a lap join which is clearly visible above the hallmarks.
The hallmarks consisting of the maker's mark and Inverness mark are struck very crisply. The front of the body of the skewer is engraved with a family crest above the owner's contemporary script initials.
In Georgian days skewers were used to check the progress of the roasting and also to hold the meat while carving. Today these skewers make excellent letter openers.
Scottish provincial silver is hard to find and is very sought after.
