Holding five blown reeded bottles, varying in height from 15.5cm to 18.5cm. Each bottle with a domed lignum vitae lidded top surmounted with a bone finial. The rotating lignum vitae stand has a turned baluster carrying handle.
Bibliography: Edward H. Pinto, in his book 'Treen and Other Wooden Bygones' (Bell & Hyman Limited, London, 1979), notes that: ‘Wooden cruet stands are becoming scarce; the greatest rarities are those with hardwood caps to the bottles’ (p.82). Pinto’s example of a wooden cruet stand with hardwood caps to the bottles, illustrated in the centre of plate 79, holds four bottles with hardwood caps and is dated from circa 1810.
