A superb, rare George III plum pudding mahogany and tulipwood banded, retaining excellent original colour and patina. The top with concave front and sides, tulip wood cross banded and boxwood strung, with moulded edge and below an arrangement of four long graduated, tulipwood cross banded and strung drawers, fitted with gilt brass ring handles, border by canted front corners strung with box, with mahogany inlay and a diminutive fleur de lys to the top. The chest is supported on canted shaped bracket feet. The figuring and colour on this piece are second to none, a rare opportunity to acquire a fantastic piece of furniture.
Excellent. The chest has been waxed, possible minor old restorations.
From a titled gentleman in Somerset, bought in the north of England just after the war, where it was probably made in the 18th century.
