A good English George III, mahogany Gainsborough chair. The upholstered back with scalloped shaped top rail, with gently out-swept, over stuffed arms, with scroll ended, shaped moulded arm supports. The upholstered seat section with gently recessed front rail, close nailed around the lower edge. The chair is supported by four square section moulded legs, the rears with a cabriole shape, united by an H-frame stretcher standing on brass leather wheel castors. A lovely proportioned chair, newly recovered in a blue “Gainsborough” silk fabric.

This chair was part of some UK stock of highly respected New York dealer Carlton Hobbs LLC. The chair has been completely stripped to the frame and is in excellent condition throughout. “Gainsborough” fabric is a traditional fabric made by the Suffolk Silk Weaving Co.
Excellent. Minor restorations, cleaning & waxing. The chair has been re- upholstered and covered in a traditional “Gainsborough” fabric.
