A fine George III mahogany music Canterbury of rectangular galleried form by Cobb & Ellisdon, Colchester. The four turned shaped and ringed corner pillars joined by a square section concave top rail, divided into three sections, by vertical rectangular, scalloped pillars. Below a drawer with turned mahogany knob handles, standing on ring turned, tapering legs terminating in brass cap castors. Original makers label affixed to drawer bottom. Canterbury’s were originally designed to hold sheet music, today there main use would be a magazine or book rack, this one is of a very neat size and retains very good original colour & patina.
Excellent. Possible minor old restorations, cleaning & waxing.
