Very well proportioned and elegant George III, sterling silver bowl with cover. Made in London in 1809. The maker is unknown because the maker's mark is virtually indistinct, as it has been malstruck on the curve of the bowl. The rim of the lid is clearly stuck with the date mark and the lion passant. The bowl sits on a circular foot and is totally plain except for a little bit of reeding at the rim. The stepped, domed lid, which ends in a finial, is also plain On the opposite side to the hallmarks, the bowl is engraved with a family crest of the head and shoulders of a lion flanked by branches of greenery. One side of the lid is engraved with the full family coat of arms.

This bowl and cover is attractive enough to stand on its own as a decorative piece. But it has the double advantage of having a large number of uses.
Extremely good condition with good hallmarks, with the exception of the maker's mark which was malstruck on the curve.

Size :- 4 inches (10.2cm) high to top of finial x 3.1 inches (7.9cm) diameter of foot x 6.1 inches (15.5 cm) diameter of rim of bowl
