A rare pair of antique sterling silver serving plates of octagonal form. Elegant plain design and gadroon borders. Each has a coat of arms with the motto “Altiora in Votis” – “Aim High” hand engraved to the top rim and an ornate crest of a squirrel to the bottom rim. Weight 2025 grams, 65,1 troy ounces. Outside measures 35x23.5 cms. Inside measures 28x16.5 cms. London 1790. Maker James Young.
These beautiful dishes are in very good condition with no damage or restoration. The engravings are crisp and have no wear. Good weight and colour. Both stamped with a full set of clear and matching English silver hallmarks. Light scratching to the centre from use over the years. The plates have not been polished out and are not thin.
