This exceptional antique George III sterling silver pint mug has a plain baluster form onto a circular domed spreading foot.

The surface of this antique mug is plain and embellished with the contemporary bright cut engraved initials 'IE' above an illustration depicting a cockerel; the spurs to the cockerels legs and the period of the mug determines this depicts a cockfighting combatant rooster*.

This mug is fitted with an impressive opposing scroll handle with a chased leaf decorated thumbpiece and scrolling lower terminal.

This antique mug has a fine colour and patination**.

* Cockfighting was legal in England till the Cruelty to Animals Act in 1835, where the sport was conclusively banned.

** Patination or Patina is a subtle colouration or tarnish which forms on the surface of some metals, produced by oxidation or other chemical processes. A good patina proffers an aesthetically pleasing look.

The mug is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition.
